Sarah Davis: We must face honestly our state of affairs

Church leaders must be willing to hold themselves accountable for what’s going on in congregations because wishful thinking won’t help the church thrive in the future, the late AME bishop said in a 2010 interview.

[Updated: Bishop Davis died in November 2013.] Sarah Davis was a bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the third woman in the history of the denomination to ascend to this level of service. Davis served as the presiding prelate over the 16th Episcopal District, which comprises churches and schools in South America, Windward Islands, the Caribbean Islands, Cuba and Europe.
