The Rev. Donna Claycomb Sokol is the pastor of Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church, a historic congregation in Washington, D.C. Before that, from 2001 to 2005, she served as director of admissions for Duke Divinity School. She has a B.A. in economics from William Woods University, an M.Div. from Duke and a D.Min. in preaching from Wesley Theological Seminary. Before being called to ministry, Sokol worked in D.C., first as a White House intern in the Clinton administration and later on Capitol Hill, as a staffer for Congressman Eric Fingerhut and then Senator Tom Harkin. Nurturing Children Through Worship and Prayer Initiative

A new grant is available to support endeavors that help children come to know and love God and grow in faith.

The Nurturing Children Through Worship and Prayer Initiative aims to support programs that help congregations strengthen worship and prayer practices that respect how children experience God and express their faith, include children with disabilities, draw upon the arts, create opportunities for Bible storytelling, and connect worship to the daily lives of children and families.

Proposals are due by 5 p.m. (ET) on May 6, 2024.
