David Toole earned his Ph.D. in theology and ethics from Duke. He serves as associate dean for academic administration and strategic initiatives in Duke Divinity School and as vice president for thought leadership in Leadership Education at Duke Divinity. He is the principal investigator for the Clergy Health Initiative and for two other projects funded by The Duke Endowment that concern the role of clergy and the church in community development in North Carolina. He also is involved in a joint effort between Duke Divinity School, the Duke Global Health Institute and the Fuqua School of Business to strengthen health systems in Africa, and is part of a joint team developing leadership and management training for leaders and managers in the health system and in communities in Uganda.
