Is America no longer the land of innovation? Everyone from tech billionaires to columnists seems to think so. Most say the problem is a shortage of innovators and propose expanding the genius pipeline. But a new study argues that it's also important to get incentives right to induce innovations, Slate reports. If we want scientists to take the risks required to make groundbreaking discoveries, we have to recognize that we'll see a lot more failures as well. As Thomas Edison once said when asked about his lack of results, “Results! Why, man, I have gotten a lot of results. I know several thousand things that won't work."
